| Description | Stars like Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce will be looming large over the upcoming NBA Finals, but Michael Jordan is the one appearing on the cover of the upcoming NBA 2K11. 2K Sports announced today that the NBA legend and current Charlotte Bobcats owners will be appearing on the cover of the upcoming NBA 2K11 (via CNBC), confirming earlier rumors.
2K Sports vice president of marketing said that it was because they had created the "best NBA video game ever made" that they opted to bring in Jordan.
"So we thought to ourselves how can we embody that and there was only one person on that list who we wanted to have and that was Michael Jordan. Actually getting this done is the most ridiculous win of all-time," he said.
Jordan called it "an honor" to be featured on the cover of NBA 2K11.
Featuring a retired player on a sports game cover is not unprecedented. The cover of Madden NFL 09 infamously featured then-retired Brett Favre as a Packer, right before he came out of retirement to join the Jets. EA also added Wayne Gretzky to the cover of the recently-announced NHL Slapshot.
That's hardly a concern for Jordan, despite having made not one but two comebacks. Jordan's final game was in 2003. Despite having played with the Wizards for two seasons, Jordan best-known for his time with Chicago, and that's how he will be marketed. |
